Our students deserve more.

Funding for California public schools has been insufficient for decades. Currently, California is the 6th largest economy in the world, yet only 3.2% of taxpayer income is spent on K-12 education. Piedmont tries to “fill the gap” with our parcel taxes and Giving Campaign funding, but that is not a sustainable formula. Recent state budgets have provided more funding, however, the cost of essential programs, required services, and critical obligations continue to outpace the revenue received. We must join together and let Sacramento know that all California schools need funding and education must be a priority.

PUSD and PEF ask our community to join our advocacy efforts to create a sustained funding system for our schools. We ask all students, parents, teachers, staff, and the community to reach out to our state legislators to advocate for increased funding for our schools.

A sample message to share:

Hi, my name is _.

I am a resident of Assemblymember Buffy Wicks’/ Senator Nancy Skinner’s district and I am calling/emailing on behalf of public education.

We know there is more funding in recent budget proposals than the previous years, but we also know it is not enough. California should not rank 40th in the country for public school funding.

We hope that Assemblymember Wicks/ Senator Skinner will work to increase the amount of money school districts receive so that we are in the top 10 in the country for per-pupil spending once again.

Over 6 million California students are depending on you.

Thank you!
