PUSD invites families to learn more about our Transitional Kindergarten program at our Information Night on January 16 at Beach Elementary School.
TK is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program designed to meet the specific needs of four and five-year-old children. It uses developmentally and age-appropriate practices. TK does not replicate preschool or kindergarten. It addresses the child’s language, literacy, and pre-math skills with an emphasis on social and emotional development and learning through inquiry & play. The program blends preschool and readiness standards for kindergarten with a focus on hands-on and experiential learning.
The TK program is taught by credentialed teachers with specialized training in early childhood. It runs 5 days a week. Children are enrolled in either an AM (8:20 – 11:45) or PM (11:45 – 3:10) session. TK offers a developmentally appropriate curriculum that allows students to explore, create, and learn through purposeful play-based activities. Social emotional, fine motor, and academic skills are all integrated in this hands-on program to build a strong foundation for kindergarten the following year.
