We are here to help our children be their best selves and we all want to provide a place where they can thrive within and navigate throughout a diverse world. In these sessions, organized by the age range (see below) of of our children, we will discuss:

• Ways in which parents across the community have led discussions around the kitchen table
• Learn tips and tricks that are age appropriate to “bring in your child” in difficult situations or conversations
• Gain skills, strategies and access to resources to help your child feel like they belong
• Sustain your own sense of self and build resiliency as a parent

All learning sessions are from 6:00 – 7:30 at Havens Elementary Library

Early Childhood: Birth – Grade 3
Through video, readings, conversations and experiences we will work through the three areas of Self, Social Interactions and Relationships to help build your toolkit in guiding your young learner along! ● Self: which includes self awareness and self-regulation, social & emotional understanding, empathy and caring, & initiative in learning. ● Social Interaction: which focuses on interactions with familiar adults, interactions with peers, group participation, and cooperation and responsibility. ● Relationships: which includes attachment to parents,close relationships with teachers and caregivers, and friendships.

Upper Elementary: Grades 4-7
During this stage students have to begin to separate from childhood, begin to create a social group, harness their emotions and now begin to deal with authority figures. Now as your child shifts and begins to build a social group, the social group begins to have a greater influence. This is when what they watch and learn through social media, videos and music begins to influence them more and more. Through video, readings, conversations and experiences we will work through the three areas of identity, media and social groups to help build your toolkit in guiding your student along!

Secondary Students: Grades 8 – 12
Identity is still a primary focus as students both try to fit in and try to be independent. Social groups and ties strengthen, cliques are formed and students wrestle with identity in relationship with others. Through video, readings, conversations and experiences we will work through three areas: two-way communication, monitoring, and strengthening your bonds to help build your toolkit in guiding your secondary student to soar on their own.
