Kids will have a chance to climb up in Public Works’ big trucks, complete a tree-themed art project, and maybe win a new book to take home at Piedmont’s annual Arbor and Earth Day celebration, hosted by Piedmont Public Works and the Piedmont Park Commission.
This year’s event will feature:
- Public Works big trucks: See the equipment Public Works staff uses daily in their work to keep Piedmont’s trees and public spaces healthy and beautiful. Children will be able to climb up and sit in the cab of the trucks.
- Arts & crafts: Park Commissioners will be on hand to assist little ones with their creations.
- Owl naming contest: A photo exhibit and naming contest will highlight raptors living in Piedmont Parks, including a nesting pair of great horned owls that have taken up residence in Dracena Park. Community members can share name suggestions online in advance at piedmont.ca.gov/DracenaOwls.
- Raffle: Kids can enter to win a Lego set or children’s book related to Arbor and Earth Day themes. New this year, a raffle for adult attendees will offer an opportunity to take home a California native plant for your garden.
- Electric leaf blower games: Gas powered leaf blowers are not allowed in Piedmont, but clean, quiet electric alternatives can get the job done. We’ve got a fun activity planned for you to try one for yourself!
The event will also include informational tables from the Piedmont Fire Department and the City’s Sustainability Division.
