On Tuesday, October 1,, 2024, the League of Women Voters Piedmont (LWVP) hosted two virtual candidate forums. Recordings of both forums are now available on the League’s YouTube channel, at https://www.youtube.com/@lwvpiedmont/videos.

The City Council forum was held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. It was moderated by Kathleen Cha, immediate past President of LWV Bay Area and currently a member of LWV Oakland.  Candidates James Green, Conna McCarthy and Lorrel Plimier participated.  Sunny Bostrom-Fleming, who is also on the ballot, was unable to appear; she submitted a written statement which the moderator read during the candidates’ introductory remarks.

City Council candidates addressed a number of issues, including housing, pool costs, future infrastructure needs, and other issues of importance to the community. Questions were pre-selected from among those submitted by community members and reviewed by a group of LWVP members.

The Board of Education forum was held from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. Jennifer Nixon, a member of LWVP, moderated this forum.  Candidates Michael Malione, Max Roman, and Susy Struble participated.  The Board of Education election is not competitive; there are three candidates and three open seats.

Board of Education candidates spoke about teacher retention, curriculum, student wellness and other significant issues.
