Whoooo are these owls? Naming contest for Dracena Park mascots!
A pair of great horned owls have taken up residence in Dracena Park – and the Park Commission wants your ideas to name them! Submit suggestions online at piedmont.ca.gov/DracenaOwls.
The winning names will be selected by members of the Park Commission and announced at the City’s annual Arbor and Earth Day celebration on Thursday, April 24, 4-6pm at Community Hall.
Owls nesting in City parks is a sign of a healthy, thriving ecosystem. Owls play an important role in balancing the local environment, helping manage rodent populations naturally and maintaining ecological harmony. The naming contest invites community members to connect more deeply with the natural world around us.
Especially for kids and families, giving the owls a name may encourage curiosity about all the wildlife supported by our urban forest, which is home to raptors, songbirds, pollinators, and more. Forming connections with wildlife at a young age can spark a lifelong interest in conservation and stewardship.
